Urological Comprehensive Care Program — Virtual Tour
The Urological Comprehensive Care Program (UCCP) facilities, located on two adjacent floors at UPMC Shadyside, were designed with the patient's comfort and safety in mind. Representing the first “acuity-adaptable unit” program in urologic care in the United States, the UCCP allows for all care, with the exception of surgical procedures, to be performed in the patient’s room. Surgeries occur in the dedicated operating rooms located on each floor.

6th Floor Patient and Family Lounge,
and Nurses’ StationIn the UCCP’s model of care, one nurse guides each patient through the entire process and oversees care throughout his stay. The nurse contacts the patient prior to surgery, handles the patient’s admission, coordinates the patient’s pre- and post-surgical procedures, and arranges the patient’s discharge. The family is also intimately involved in almost every aspect of care. Patient and family lounges allow for more interaction between patients and their loved ones in comfortable surroundings. |

Patient RoomPatient rooms at the UCCP are designed to adapt to each patient’s needs throughout his hospital stay. These private rooms greatly reduce the need for transfers, serving as exam rooms, anesthesia prep rooms, and recovery rooms – all aspects of pre- and post-operative care are brought to the patient’s bedside. Each room is also outfitted with a private bathroom, guest table, mini-refrigerator, computer, and sleeper chair. |

Conditioning RoomThe conditioning room provides treadmills for patients to use as part of their recovery process. Other amenities include computer stations for patients and their families. |

Research LabAnother advantage of the UCCP is the access it gives patients to UPMC's research endeavors. In labs like this one, UPMC researchers search for potential breakthroughs in diagnosis and treatment. Some patients with diseases that aren’t responding to standard therapies may benefit from participating in a UPMC clinical trial. |
