The fringe benefit program, which is administered by the Graduate Medical Education Office, is provided for residents as well as clinical fellows who are performing the same type of clinical services as those performed by residents. Only full-time trainees can be covered for health insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, and long-term disability insurance.
2006 and 2007 Benefits
Fringe benefits effective July 1, 2006, through June 30, 2007, for full-time residents and clinical fellows are as follows:

The health insurance plan for the trainee and his/her eligible dependent(s) is an Exclusive Provider Organization (EPO)

MetLife Dental insurance will be provided at no cost to the trainee; dependent selection requires the trainee to pay a monthly contribution.

Life insurance to the even thousand dollars above the annual stipend, which includes Accidental Death and Dismemberment.

Paid short-term disability of up to 90 days of complete disability. Trainee must provide proof that (s)he is disabled and under the care of a physician.

Long-term disability insurance coverage.

Hospital malpractice insurance coverage provided in accordance with Pennsylvania State mandated levels of coverage.

The above-stated benefits, except for MetLife dental insurance for dependents, are noncontributory.
