Bariatric Support Groups and Resources
Weight management services at UPMC offer a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary approach to long-term weight loss, emphasizing the dietary, psychological, and exercise needs of the patient. UPMC encourages all bariatric patients, surgical and non-surgical, to attend support group meetings. Support groups help bariatric patients manage physical and emotional issues related to weight loss as well as those issues that are unique to people who have undergone weight loss surgery.
Non-Surgical Support Resources
UPMC offers support resources ranging from medically supervised group programs that focus on adjusting lifestyle, changing self-destructive eating behaviors, increasing physical activity, and developing healthy eating habits, to one-on-one nutrition and physical activity education and support options. There are a variety of options available that are offered at multiple locations throughout UPMC. Each option is designed to provide patients with the unique opportunity to develop a weight loss plan that is individually tailored to their specific needs.
