ADHD Treatment Program for Children and Adults
Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of UPMC has one of the few centers in the area that offers a treatment program specifically for children and adults with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Approximately 8 to 10 percent of school-aged children and 4 percent of adults have ADHD, a disorder characterized by recurrent and persistent hyperactivity, impulsivity, inattention and difficulty controlling overall behavior.
The ADHD Specialty Treatment Program offers comprehensive evaluation and evidence-based treatment services, including cognitive behavioral therapy, medication evaluation and management, parent and adolescent negotiation skills, study and organizational skills, and school and college preparation. The program also offers opportunities to participate in National Institutes of Health and other research studies conducted by WPIC’s Youth and Family Research Program, as well as training for professionals treating individuals with ADHD.
