The Symptoms of ADHD

Inattention Symptoms

  • Difficulty listening (at school, at work, or at home).
  • Difficulty paying attention (in school, in meetings, or watching movies).
  • Avoidance of tasks that require sustained attention (reading, board games).
  • Difficulty finishing things (homework, projects, movies, book, or household chores).
  • Losing or misplacing things (homework, keys, wallet or cell phone).
  • Difficulty staying organized.

Impulsivity/Hyperactivity Symptoms

  • Squirming or fidgeting, difficulty staying still.
  • Excessive activity, such as running or climbing.
  • Feelings of restlessness.
  • Needing to be busy all of the time.
  • Difficulty working or playing quietly.
  • Excessive talking, interrupting others.
  • Difficulty waiting for a turn in social or other situations.

In addition, ADHD could also be present with, and exacerbate symptoms, of:

  • Anxiety.
  • Depression.
  • Conduct disorders.
  • Substance abuse.
