Diabetes Education and Research

Pittsburgh Regional Initiative for Diabetes Education

The Pittsburgh Regional Initiative for Diabetes Education (PRIDE) provides comprehensive diabetes care throughout southwestern Pennsylvania.

Formed by UPMC and its six regional health care partners, PRIDE uses a multifaceted approach to care for people with diabetes throughout the community.

University of Pittsburgh Diabetes Institute

The University of Pittsburgh Diabetes Institute serves as the umbrella organization under which UPMC and the University of Pittsburgh coordinate diabetes prevention, education, treatment, and research.

The Diabetes Institute unites experts in the areas of:

  • education
  • epidemiology
  • patient and physician education
  • clinical care
  • health economics
  • behavioral science
  • rural medicine

One of the country's few programs facilitating the translation of diabetes research into practice, the Diabetes Institute is dedicated to delivering state-of-the-art treatments to all people with diabetes, and to those at risk.

Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International (JDRF) is a leader in setting the agenda for diabetes research worldwide, and is the largest charitable funder of, and advocate for, type 1 diabetes research. The mission of JDRF is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research.

JDRF recognizes that children with type 1 diabetes don’t outgrow the disease, and more and more adults are being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes every day. To fill an important gap, JDRF offers a wealth of tools, information and support for adults living with type 1 diabetes.

Educational Classes and Events

UPMC Diabetes Centers offer a spectrum of educational classes and events for people with diabetes.
