Digestive Disorders Center

Research Programs at the University of Pittsburgh Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition

Research programs at the University of Pittsburgh Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition help keep Digestive Disorders Center specialists armed with the latest tools to combat digestive disease. The division's four main research concentrations include:

  • making discoveries to help doctors and scientists better understand digestive disease
  • using these discoveries to conceive the next generation of diagnostic methods and therapies
  • moving those investigational methods into clinical testing to gain approval for general use
  • providing UPMC digestive specialties with individualized solutions to patients' treatment problems

The Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition concentrates on complex chronic disorders that involve interactions between genetic makeup and environment, such as inflammation, nerve-cell dysfunction, cancer, and organ dysfunction.
