Heart Failure Research and Clinical Trials

Researchers at the  Heart and Vascular Institute work to advance the science of cardiovascular care, and our heart failure patients benefit directly from our extensive research.

Our diverse studies related to heart failure have included:

  • ventricular assist devices to help the heart heal itself
  • examination of causative factors in peripartum cardiomyopathy
  • the use of gene therapy for coronary artery disease
  • noninvasive therapies for angina and heart failure
  • new minimally invasive surgical techniques to decrease length of hospital stay
  • new antirejection techniques for heart and lung transplant recipients
  • new methods of evaluating right heart function
  • autologous stem cell injections into damaged heart tissue to improve ejection fraction in patients with heart failure
  • first use of recombinant chimeric human protein to treat congestive heart failure
  • one of only a few sites in the U.S. conducting a CoreValve ® TAVI (transcatheter aortic valve implantation) clinical trial
