The UPMC Liver Cancer Center's mission is to provide comprehensive care to its patients. The Center believes in the interrelatedness of the mind and body, and that maintaining quality of life through the treatment of your cancer is paramount. After breing diagnosed with cancer, many patients and their families struggle with changes in physical functioning, as well as emotional and spiritual well-being.
In addition to providing state-of-the-art cancer treatments, the Liver Cancer Center also provides an array of complementary strategies to address the burdens associated with the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Individual, couple, family, and group therapy that provides education, support, and emotional processing associated with a diagnosis of cancer and its treatment is available to all patients and their loved ones. The symptoms of cancer (e.g., pain) as well as the side effects of treatment (e.g., nausea and vomiting) can also be managed through a complement of both pharmacological (medication) and behavioral strategies.
