Liver Diagnostic Tests

The UPMC Liver Cancer Center provides a full range of tests to help diagnose liver cancer and other liver conditions.

Diagnostic procedures include:

• nutritional tests
• breath tests
• special motility measures
• tests of acid secretion
• percutaneous liver biopsies
• radiology tests
• blood tests

Some of these tests obtain samples of liver tissue (biopsies), while others can simultaneously diagnose and treat certain liver problems, reducing the need for and frequency of more invasive liver surgery.
