Regional Perfusion Therapy for Peritoneal Mesothelioma

Peritoneal mesothelioma is a cancer that forms in the lining of the abdominal cavity. It does not respond well to conventional chemotherapy.

For this reason, regional perfusion therapy may be a treatment option for peritoneal mesothelioma.

Perfusion Therapy Treatment for Peritoneal Mesothelioma

 Treatment Description
Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemoperfusion (HIPEC) A heated solution containing anticancer drugs is circulated directly to and throughout the abdomen to treat tiny tumors that have spread widely.

Surgeons may debulk — or partially remove — the tumor and/or perform a peritonectomy, or removal of the abdominal lining, prior to treating with HIPEC.
