Transplant Waitlist
If you elect deceased-donor transplantation, our team will:
- Add your medical profile to the national waitlist for a kidney or pancreas donor.
- Send blood samples each month to check for antibodies with any potential donors.
Time on the waitlist is based on your:
- Blood type
- Tissue type
- Antibody level against donor's
- Other medical factors
Shorter Median Waitlist Times
At UPMC, our median waitlist time — according to the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR) — is only 27.2 months, which is half the national median waitlist time.
Once an organ becomes available, your dedicated transplant nurse coordinator will notify you to report for admission to the hospital for your procedure.
