Experience and Insight

For more than three decades, the UPMC Heart Transplantation Program has given new hope to heart patients and their families.

Our transplant cardiologists and surgeons have performed more than 1,300 adult heart transplants, and our program is one of a small few with recipients at or beyond 30 years post-transplant — a testament to our expertise in managing patients over the long term. 

Outcomes

Because we perform a high volume of procedures and treat many patients who present unusually complex conditions, our experts are particularly adept at managing even the most difficult cases.

Even with a greater proportion of complex patient cases, our outcomes have historically been on par with national averages.

Our team members bring a wealth of experience, knowledge, and insight to every case, and work together to arrive at an individualized approach for each patient in order to achieve the best possible outcome.
