Preparing for Your Transplant

Once an organ becomes available, someone from the UPMC Transplant Services will notify you.

When you get the call for your transplant:

• Do not eat or drink.
• Make sure you have all of your medications. And, that your caregivers and family members have theirs too.
• Remember to pack your cell phone and charger.
• Report to the designated area of the hospital your coordinator specified.

• Financial Considerations: How much of the cost of your transplant will be paid by insurance and how much will you have to pay? We'll help you find out, and we'll work closely with your insurance case manager to coordinate your benefits.

For Your Caregivers and Family Members

• Family House: Convenient, affordable housing for patients and their families traveling to Pittsburgh for treatment of serious illnesses.
• E-Cards: If you can’t visit your loved one in the hospital, send an e-card. Once you create and personalize your electronic greeting card, a hospital staff member will print it, in color, and deliver it to your loved one’s room, at no cost to you.
