Visiting Hours

Visiting hours are from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. No one under age 13 may visit without first checking with the patient's nurse. Support people may be able to spend the night in the patient’s private room if needed. Please make arrangements with the patient's nurse nurse.

Magee-Womens Hospital knows how important it is for family and friends to be involved in your recovery. Our family-centered care philosophy offers flexibility for visiting. However, your health and overall safety and security influence the number of visitors and time they can spend with you. We ask visitors to observe the following general guidelines, in addition to the guideline noted for specific units:

  • Visitors are permitted to enter only the area which they are visiting.
  • Visitors should not come to visit if they have an active communicable infection, such as an upper respiratory, viral, or skin infection, or infectious diarrhea.
  • Except for children of a patient, all children who visit must be at least 13 years of age. All children must be supervised at all times by a responsible adult.
  • No child should be brought to visit who has a fever, respiratory infection, gastrointestinal infection, diarrhea, or exposure within the preceding three weeks to measles, mumps, chicken pox, or German measles.

Womancare Birth Center

The Womancare Birth Center permits four visitors at a time until 8:30 p.m. After 8:30 p.m., only four primary support people will be permitted to stay. All other visitors will be asked to either leave the hospital or will be sent to the Emergency Department waiting room. During birth, one or two visitors may be present.

After the baby is born, the new baby's brothers and sisters are allowed to visit. They must be with an adult at all times. No other children under age 13 are permitted to visit. Anyone who is sick or has been exposed to an infectious disease (such as chicken pox) in the past three weeks should not visit. In the triage area, visitors are limited to only one support person because of limited space in the area.

Postpartum Units

The patient’s primary support person may visit 24 hours a day. Visiting hours for all others are from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. The new baby's siblings are welcome during these times. Except for the new baby's siblings, children under 13 may not visit. Your baby may be with you during visiting hours. Please remind visitors to wash their hands before and after holding the baby.

Medical, Surgical, and Oncology Units

Visiting hours are from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Support persons may spend the night in the patient's private room if needed.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Surgical Intensive Care Unit

Visitation in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and the Medical/Surgical Intensive Care Unit (MSICU) is liberal and flexible. Parents or the main support person are encouraged to visit with the understanding that there are times when you may be asked to leave the room in order for tests, treatments, health assessments, and medical/nursing reports to be done without interruption. Please remember that patient care is always our first priority.

Gift Shop

Located off the main lobby, the Garden View Gift Shop carries newspapers, magazines, fresh floral arrangements, stuffed animals, and gift items for adults and babies. The shop includes a snack bar and is open weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and weekends from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
