What is a Form 990?
Form 990 is an annual information return that federally tax-exempt organizations must file with the IRS. It provides information on our mission, programs and finances, and includes details of executive compensation. Certain business relationships among officers, directors, key employees and their family members also are detailed in this filing.
Background on UPMC's Form 990 filings for FY2015
As part of our commitment to organizational transparency, UPMC again has filed a group, or consolidated, IRS Form 990 for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2015, which includes the majority of our tax-exempt entities. This approach is designed to improve the public’s understanding of UPMC’s operations and the relationship among our various entities. Per IRS requirements, executive compensation is reported based on Calendar Year 2014 in the Fiscal Year 2015 return. We also have filed a separate return for the parent organization, UPMC. (Please see UPMC’s most recent audited consolidated financial statements for more details. Click here.)
Our filing shows that UPMC Chief Executive Officer and President Jeffrey A. Romoff received $6.4 million in total compensation in Calendar Year 2014, about the same as he received in Calendar Year 2013. Other executives’ compensation for Calendar Year 2014 is also reported in the Fiscal Year 2015 IRS Form 990.
Under the guidance of the UPMC Board of Directors and the leadership of Mr. Romoff and his executive team, UPMC has grown to a $14 billion integrated global health enterprise with more than 60,000 employees, more than 20 hospitals, 500 outpatient sites and doctors’ offices, a more than 2.9-million-member health insurance division, and commercial and international ventures.
UPMC contributes to the good health of the region by providing uncompensated care, support for research and education, community services and charitable contributions valued at nearly $900 million each year. UPMC also serves as a unique catalyst for transforming the economy of western Pennsylvania into one based on medicine, research, education and technology.
