Colombia: Adult and Pediatric Oncology

Fundación Cardiovascular de Colombia

UPMC partnered with Fundacion Cardiovascular de Colombia (FCV) to develop and co-manage an oncology institute in Bucaramanga. This agreement builds off of a successful, six-year relationship in cardiology between Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC and FCV. The new center, Hospital International de Colombia (HIC) Cancer Institute, will help meet the need for advanced adult and pediatric oncology services in that region.

In the first phase of this agreement, UPMC will provide:

  • Training guidance
  • Equipment selection
  • Construction plans
  • Operational policies and procedures
  • Clinical pathways
  • Oncology best practices

Upon launch of the oncology institute, UPMC will act as co-manager and provide on-the-ground support, including sending dedicated staff members to the center in Colombia, supported by visiting staff from Pittsburgh and collaborating in ongoing telehealth initiatives.

The new oncology institute will also provide:

  • Bone marrow transplant unit
  • Comprehensive medical, radiation, and surgical services
  • Palliative care program
  • Counseling services
  • Nutrition services
  • Pain management program
