Hospital Management
UPMC has been providing hospital management for more than a century and is well positioned as it expands this expertise internationally. What began in 1893 as Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh is now a fully integrated health system with 20 hospitals, an insurance division, and hundreds of other care sites in western Pennsylvania and in locations around the world.
As part of its mission to bring the most advanced health care to patients worldwide, UPMC operates and is the majority owner of UPMC Beacon Hospital in Dublin, Ireland. UPMC Beacon Hospital is an 183-bed facility that opened in January 2007 and offers services in oncology, orthopaedics, cardiology, neurology, and dermatology.
In addition, for more than 10 years, UPMC has managed Istituto Mediterraneo per i Trapianti e Terapie ad Alta Specializzazione (ISMETT), providing transplantation and other specialized therapies in Palermo, Italy. This partnership between UPMC and the Region of Sicily has been one of the most advanced and most successful international ventures undertaken by a U.S. academic medical center.
UPMC is expanding on its promise to bring its global health care expertise to markets in the Mediterranean, Middle East and Asia. To that end, UPMC is exploring options in Cyprus, Jordan, Turkey, India, China and other locations. UPMC is committed to providing premier health care management services to the communities it serves regionally, nationally, and internationally.
