UPMC’s academic partner is the University of Pittsburgh, which ranks among the world’s top universities and research programs. Since 1997, the University of Pittsburgh has ranked among the top 10 institutions in receiving research funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and currently is ranked sixth. During the past decade, University of Pittsburgh scientists have contributed to more than 18,000 medical research papers.

ResearchUPMC is furthering research internationally by developing a research facility in Palermo, Italy, as part of its relationship with the Ri.MED Foundation. The Ri.MED Foundation and UPMC are partnering with the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine to build and manage the Biotechnology and Biomedical Research Center. UPMC will recruit creative and productive scientists, train researchers, and help attract research funding for this facility.
