Quality Staff Education

The Wolff Center helps UPMC leadership, management, and frontline staff build the skills necessary to improve the quality of care where they work. We do this by providing free classes tailored to the distinct needs of UPMC employees. Our goal is to equip them with both knowledge and easy-to-use tools that they can use to solve problems when they see them.

Our Quality Education Series is a six-month long series of classes for clinical and operational leaders that leads participants through the process of tackling a real-world problem. Past participants have worked to improve transitions of care, improve the flow of patient care, ensure needed equipment is readily available in designated locations, and implement new models of care to safely prepare patients for a smooth discharge home.

All UPMC staff can sign up for our Just-in-Time Quality Classes — one- to two-hour long classes designed to build a common language and understanding about how to implement change to achieve continuous quality improvement. Also available to staff is our online improvement toolkit. Both resources help staff tackle everyday problems, such as smoothing flow between departments, engaging staff change efforts, measuring changes to determine if they’ve made a difference, ensuring patient satisfaction, and improving time management so that staff can focus on providing excellent, personal care for our patients.​
