About UPMC

Supplier Diversity Program

UPMC’s role in the community goes far beyond the superb health care services it offers: UPMC has a major economic impact on the region. As the region’s largest employer, with a workforce of 50,000+ and annual revenue of almost $8 billion, UPMC has a regional economic impact that was estimated at more than $19.7 billion in 2010.

As part of its commitment to the community, UPMC’s Supplier Diversity Program is designed to provide minority, women-owned and disadvantaged businesses (MWDBE) and disability-owned business enterprises equal access to procurement opportunities.  The program strives to ensure that certified MWDBEs are provided the maximum opportunity to participate as partners and suppliers of goods and services to UPMC.  To that end, UPMC spent approximately $89 million last year through the minority, women-owned and disadvantaged business initiative.

Approach:

  • Supplier Diversity is an integral part of the UPMC Supply Chain Management (SCM) strategy
  • UPMC actively recruits MWDBEs to participate in the Supplier Diversity Program.
  • UPMC seeks to enter into first and second tier business relationships with MWDBE suppliers who provide quality, cost-competitive products and services to UPMC.
  • A primary focus of the program is to grow the capacity of MWDBE suppliers.
  • The program’s Minority Business Development Initiative provides education, training, mentoring, and networking opportunities to MWDBE members.

MWDBEs interested in the program are required to register via the Supplier Registration Form
