Culture
Creating an inclusive workplace that supports idea sharing and professional development.
At UPMC, we strive to foster a diverse workplace culture and are determined to include people with diverse backgrounds and perspectives throughout our health care delivery network. We implement best practices in the field of diversity and continuously re-evaluate and sharpen our inclusion efforts.
Our goal is to develop a workforce reflective of the people we serve. By doing so, UPMC will enhance patient services offered at our health care facilities throughout the region.
We reach out to people in their neighborhoods with the message that a healthy lifestyle can improve their lives. UPMC Health Plan provides 1.3 million residents of western Pennsylvania with health care coverage.
- UPMC’s Diversity Council advises on the recruitment, retention, and recognition of a diverse workforce at UPMC and its subsidiaries and affiliates. In addition, the council supports workplace inclusion by championing efforts surrounding employee engagement, focus groups, cultural awareness, and other inclusive initiatives.
- Our work-life and wellness efforts concentrate on practical steps to get or stay in shape, eat properly, stop smoking, and find balance between work and home. Some initiatives include:
- MyHealth
MyHealth is a suite of programs and services available to UPMC employees that enable them to learn about their current health status, identify potential long-term or short-term risks, and make healthy lifestyle changes. MyHealth is designed to foster a culture of health at UPMC, resulting in affordable benefit programs and a better quality of life for all staff.
- Take a Healthy Step
Part of the UPMC MyHealth program, the Take a Healthy Step campaign gives employees the opportunity to receive a deductible credit towards their current-year benefit plan by participating in activities that promote health and wellness.
- Shape Up
UPMC employees can take advantage of a health incentive program offered through a partnership with the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh. Many UPMC campuses offer on-site exercise programs taught by YMCA instructors, and two UPMC locations have YMCAs onsite: UPMC Braddock and U.S. Steel Tower.
- UPMC Health Plan provides comprehensive health care coverage to UPMC employees and other companies throughout western Pennsylvania. The Health Plan is one of the most innovative insurance plans in the nation. It works with the region’s employers and providers to develop better ways to deliver superb health care. UPMC Health Plan’s programs and tools help consumers, including those with chronic diseases like congestive heart failure, asthma, and diabetes, manage their health on a day-to-day basis. These programs — designed by medical experts, nurses, and educators — improve clinical outcomes and have saved millions of dollars through decreased hospital admissions and emergency room visits.
- UPMC for Life, the Medicare program operated by UPMC Health Plan, provides information regarding Medicare eligibility and coverage, as well as the various Medicare Advantage Plans that are available to eligible UPMC retirees.
