On October 28, 2008 Ambassador Paolo Pucci di Benisichi
Counsellor of State of the Italian Republic
presented a lecture, Security and Cooperation in the Mediterranean Region: An Italian Outlook. Jeffrey A. Romoff, President and CEO, UPMC, welcomed those in attendance and described the relationship between ISMETT, Ri.MED and UPMC. Professor Alberta Sbragia, Director, European Union Center for International Studies, University Center for International Studies, University of Pittsburgh introduced the Ambassador to the group assembled at the Starzl Biomedical Science Tower, Darragh Street, Pittsburgh, Pa. USA.

The BIOS newsletter of the London School of Economics and Political Science publishes an article on ‘Quality and biomedicine in a Sicilian transplant centre’ by Chiara Di Bartolo, Quality Assurance Manager at RIMED Foundation and Regenerative Medicine and Cell Therapy Unit ISMETT. The article is an account of Chiara's current work and it is based on her experience with the development of UPMC International research.
