Leadership Development

As a growing leader locally and internationally, UPMC has increasing needs for bench depth in its leaders. UPMC Nursing and UPMC Human Resources are working together to create systems to enhance our leadership development, talent management, and succession planning. This will be achieved through targeted development opportunities from the staff level to the executive level. We strive to support an environment rich in leaders who are prepared to meet the challenges of UPMC today and in the future.

The UPMC leadership development philosophy is that all nurses have leadership potential. The infrastructure for leadership development at UPMC is a combination of formal and informal education; targeted task assignments and development; consistent, developmental coaching; individual assessments and consistent feedback; and compensation and reward systems that reinforce the value of leadership.

Nurse leaders who meet the criteria may be selected to participate in the Leadership Development Intensive, an acceleration pool for high-performing talent.
