Abstract Submission and Display Guidelines for Poster Presentations
Nurses are invited to submit abstracts on completed research or quality improvement projects relevant to nursing innovations to advance practice and improve quality.
Nursing students, nurses in clinical practice, and nurses in academic and administrative settings are encouraged to use this forum to present their research or quality improvement projects.

Abstract Criteria
Abstracts for poster presentations must address each of the following for acceptance:
Research Utilization Projects
- Purpose or aim of project
- Expected outcome of the research utilization
- Research utilization framework
- Steps and strategies of utilization
- Evaluation and outcome
- Implications for nursing practice
Quantitative or Qualitative Research
- Research question or purpose of study
- Theoretical or conceptual framework
- Method, including:
- Design
- Setting
- Sample
- Procedure
- Instruments
- Data analysis
- Major findings and conclusions
- Implications for nursing practice
Formatting Abstracts
- Use Microsoft Word.
- Type abstract to fit on 8.5 x 11paper. All margins must be one inch.
- Use single line spacing.
- Use Times New Roman font, size 12.
- Maximum length of abstract is 300 words.
- Must be submitted electronically no later than March 4, 2012, at 11:59 p.m. EST.
Submitting Abstracts
E-mail the following two attachments and information to Lorraine Brock, RN, MSN, at brocklm@upmc.edu:
- One original abstract with name(s) of investigator(s), title(s), and agency/agencies. This copy is for publication in the conference proceedings if selected.
- One original abstract without name(s) of investigator(s), title(s), and agency/agencies. This copy is distributed to the review panel for an anonymous review.
- In your e-mail message, include your:
- Name
- Credentials
- Title
- Address
- Telephone number
- E-mail address
- Acknowledgement of abstract receipt will be sent via e-mail.
Deadline to submit abstracts: Sunday, March 4, 2012, at 11:59 p.m. EST.
Selection
Posters abstracts will be selected based on a panel review.
Posters will be accepted based on final scoring as well as quality of submission, impact, and to assure a variety of topics to be displayed.
Conference Registration
All participants and presenters are expected to attend the conference and assume responsibility for travel expenses and presentation display.
First author poster presenters (not all authors) for each poster will receive a discounted rate of $299.
