You are considered an employee of UPMC if you are directly employed by one of the UPMC subsidiaries (which includes UPMC hospitals or other facilities, such as UPMC Mercy, UPMC Enterprises, Ovation, or Seneca Manor assisted living residence). Individuals who are employed through UPMC WorkSource are also considered employees of UPMC.
You are typically not considered an employee of UPMC if you have been hired through a non-UPMC related company to perform services that are integrated into UPMC business operations.
You are not considered an employee of UPMC if you are an independent contractor, which is classified as a business owner or contractor who provides goods or services to a UPMC subsidiary, and these services can usually stand alone and are not integrated into business operations. UPMC retains independent contractors to perform services for the organization under an express, written agreement.
