Nursing highlights

Nurses at UPMC Northwest specialize in many practices, including medical-surgical, adult intensive care, maternal/child, stroke, and emergency care.

We believe that every nurse has the potential to be a leader, and we promote frequent staff development opportunities both locally and through UPMC. We foster collaborative working relationships and strive to promote the best patient experience.

Nurses are supported in their practice by our hospitalist program. There is a hospitalist on-site 24 hours a day to respond to critical patient incidents as well as collaborate regularly on their assigned patients.

We encourage nurses to be engaged in their practice and our organization. Among the many committees in which nurses may participate, there is a Professional Practice Council with representatives from every nursing department. The council brings together the nursing staff and nursing leadership to enhance the nursing practice

We are actively pursuing Joint Commission accreditation for our Stroke Program as well as Level III Trauma accreditation.
