Description

UPMC Passavant is a community-based facility with two campuses providing tertiary care services for residents in communities north of Pittsburgh and beyond. UPMC Passavant is in the midst of a $100 million expansion to increase capacity for advanced care at both campuses. Our hospital prides itself on providing the ultimate patient experience through a state-of-the-art facility, renowned medical specialists, and the highest level of patient and family focused care.

Nursing highlights

Nurses at UPMC Passavant have the opportunity to practice in a variety of areas, with specialty focuses in our recognized Centers of Excellence: oncology, cardiac care, orthopaedics and spine surgery, and GI medicine, as well as future on-site pediatric emergency care at our Cranberry campus. Nursing collaboration with renowned physicians ensures that patients receive the highest level of care.

UPMC Passavant nurses are supported by a multidisciplinary team, including a house physician presence on off-shifts and hospitalist physician services. Transforming Care at the Bedside, or TCAB, units allow unit staff to implement innovative approaches to providing care, which are shared throughout the system. Ongoing education is provided in a wide array of formats to appeal to the adult learner, including simulation education at WISER at UPMC Passavant, a satellite center of the Peter M. Winter Institute for Simulation, Education, and Research, located at the McCandless campus.

Nurses influence their practice through participation in unit-based professional practice councils, as well as hospital-wide councils, including Research Relevance to Practice, Clinical Standards, Patient Care Innovation and Collaboration, and Patient/Family Education and Discharge Planning. These opportunities influence the future of nursing by working with nursing students, and through a variety of school programs targeting middle and high school students, including the Summer Nursing Institute.
