Nursing highlights
UPMC Presbyterian is an internationally renowned center for organ transplantation and a leader in cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery, critical care medicine and trauma services, minimally invasive endoneurosurgery and stroke care, orthopaedics, medicine, and general surgery. The hospital is designated as a Level I Regional Resource Trauma Center, and has received accreditation from The Joint Commission in stroke care, artificial heart care, and ventricular assist devices.
Nurses are creating and supporting the patient-focused environment as a foundation of innovation and evidence-based practice. Innovation has been linked to clinical outcomes through the use of new technology, including Visensia, a patient-monitoring system that automatically analyzes and interprets the combined patterns of a patient's vitral signs; Ticket to Ride, which assists with patient hand-offs; the Wireless Integrated Network for Nurses, a system that allows nurses to monitor cardiac rhythms from the monitor on their medication carts; and an integrated electronic medical record system that includes computerized provider order entry. Nurses participate in journal clubs to share knowledge and enhance their professional and clinical practice based upon evidence.
UPMC Presbyterian nurses are supported in the areas of professional development and career advancement, whether completing an advanced nursing degree or advancing your career at the bedside through certification, nursing leadership, or nursing research. UPMC offers opportunities for seasoned nurses with UPMC Life Stages, a program designed to give eligible participants more flexibility in their work life through preferred schedules, reduced direct patient care hours per week, and full-time employee benefits.
