Admission Requirements for UPMC Schools of Nursing

Our six locations have a rolling admission policy. This means you can submit your application far in advance of the deadline for admission consideration.

2024 deadlines to apply:

• St. Margaret SON: LPN-RN advanced track fall enrollment - January 5, 2024
• Mercy SON:16-Month summer enrollment – February 1, 2024 (waitlisted)
• All locations: including all program plans fall enrollment – June 1, 2024
  *Excluding St. Margaret’s LPN-RN advanced track program.

• Complete the UPMC Schools of Nursing online application.
• Answer ALL the questions within your application and submit.

Students applying to UPMC Schools of Nursing are required to submit a qualifying TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills) score of 58.7% or higher as part of the application process. The following applicants are waived from completing the TEAS exam:

Active licensed practical nurses, bachelors’ degree awardees, and UPMC employees the TEAs exam is NOT REQUIRED and WAIVED.

1. Proceed to submit the required admission documents outlined in steps 4-6 to complete your application. Incomplete applications will not be considered for admission.
2. St. Margaret’s LPN-RN advanced track applicants, please review the exam requirements for admission.     

All other applicants the TEAS exam is REQUIRED and NOT WAIVED.

1. Do not submit additional application materials until a qualifying TEAS score is received by the Schools of Nursing.
2. Schedule the TEAS exam in-person or remotely at any UPMC Schools of Nursing for priority admission processing.
3. Review TEAS guide for additional scheduling instructions and more.

• Submit an official high school transcript or GED with score report. International transcripts shall be evaluated for equivalencies through WES.org or ECE.org.
• All high school transcripts shall include a full date of graduation (mm/dd/year).
• UPMC Schools of Nursing prefer to receive electronic transcripts issued directly to our admission department from high schools, parchment.com, other e-transcripts services, or international evaluation services.
• Opened and copied transcripts are not accepted from applicants. We will not accept transcripts emailed directly by the applicant or uploaded to the application portal.
• Locate campus-specific admissions team email and mailing address here.

• Submit all post-secondary transcripts from 2014 to the present. This includes any colleges/universities, previous nursing schools, technical and/or vocational programs.
• Applicants transferring credits shall submit official transcripts prior to 2014 to determine credits eligible for transfer into the nursing program.
• UPMC Schools of Nursing prefer to receive electronic transcripts issued through Parchment.com or your institutions e-transcript system.

Failure to disclose or submit required transcripts will delay application processing and admission decisions.

• All applicants must disclose any current or previous convictions of a felony or other crimes. Review online application portal, and ensure the disclosure is properly submitted to complete the online application.
