Admissions Criteria for Prospective UPMC Nursing Students
You do not need to take any prerequisite courses before applying to UPMC Schools of Nursing. You only need a high school diploma or GED.

Admissions Checklist: Steps for Applying to Nursing School at UPMC
Step 1. Take TEAS test
The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS), is the only admissions test score accepted by the UPMC Schools of Nursing. In order to be considered for admission, you must score proficient, advanced, or exemplary on the TEAS test.
Upon meeting the TEAS qualifications, applicant must submit scores to the Pre-admissions Coordinator.

Step 2: Complete your UPMC School of Nursing application
Our UPMC Schools of Nursing application form (PDF) is straightforward. It includes elections of which UPMC nursing school you want to attend and whether you want to enroll in a part-time or full-time program.
You should also write a 300-350 word personal statement explaining what becoming a nurse means to you.
The application also includes two required reference forms and a request for high school and any post-secondary coursework transcripts.
Step 3: Complete reference forms
We're looking for two professional references. They can be an employer, a coworker, or a former teacher.
Have them complete the form and return it to you in a sealed envelope.

Step 4: Request your transcripts
We require both your high school transcripts (or copy of your GED) and any college courses you have earned credit for. This helps us decide whether to award credit for your previous courses.

Step 5: Submit your nursing school application materials to UPMC
Gather your test scores, application, transcripts, personal statement, and completed reference forms.
Send the packet to the school of your choice before the application deadline.
Our schools have a rolling admissions policy. This means you can submit your application far in advance of the deadline for admissions consideration.
