Rheumatology Telemedicine Services

For patients located outside of the greater Pittsburgh area who are in need of specialized rheumatology care, UPMC’s three Teleconsult centers bring world-class physicians close to home.

Through videoconferencing, rheumatologists at UPMC:

  • Identify rheumatologic diseases early
  • Manage chronic rheumatologic diseases
  • Provide necessary follow-up care

How Telerheumatology Works

The rheumatologist in collaboration with the onsite Registered Nurse (RN) will:

  • Obtain medical history from patient who is with RN at UPMC Teleconsult Center
  • Complete a full physical examination
  • Discuss diagnosis and treatment directly with patient
  • Communicate recommendations back to referring physician as needed
  • Schedule follow-up visits

Ideal candidates for telemedicine consultations with UPMC Rheumatologists include those with the following diseases or conditions:

  • Scleroderma
  • Myositis
