Ireland
As part of its mission to bring the most advanced health care to patients worldwide, UPMC partnered with the Beacon Medical Group to own and manage the Beacon Hospital in Dublin. Beacon Hospital is a 183-bed facility that opened in January 2007 and offers services in oncology, orthopaedics, cardiology, neurology, and dermatology.
Further, UPMC manages two cancer facilities in Ireland through the UPMC Cancer Centers. These partnerships reflect UPMC’s “hub-and-satellite” model of cancer care that delivers the highest standard of care — and most advanced radiation therapy — to locations closer to patients’ homes.
Dublin, Ireland
UPMC Cancer Centers and Beacon Hospital jointly support the radiotherapy department of the Beacon Hospital Cancer Centre. The Centre is located within Beacon Hospital, a private facility in Dublin, the capital and largest city in Ireland.
As part of comprehensive cancer services available at Beacon Hospital, the Cancer Centre provides radiotherapy services, including intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and image guided radiation therapy. Beacon Hospital Cancer Centre recently received the first Trilogy linear accelerator in Ireland, which will enable the center to perform stereotactic radiosurgery.
Waterford, Ireland
UPMC Cancer Centers and Euro Care International jointly maintain the Whitfield Cancer Centre, which is about 100 miles from Dublin.
Whitfield Cancer Centre was established to provide access for state-of-the-art radiation therapy in southeast Ireland, a more remote part of the country where access to such treatment is greatly needed.
