Otolaryngology Residency Program at UPMC Hamot

A message from the program director, Sean Carroll, DO

Welcome to the UPMC Hamot Otolaryngology Residency!Sean Carroll, DO
The UPMC Hamot Otolaryngology Residency Program is a five year, AOA-accredited program offering comprehensive clinical training that prepares physicians for autonomous practice or entrance into a specialty fellowship. As a tertiary hub and the area’s only Level II Trauma Center, UPMC Hamot treats a high volume of patients with a wide variety of conditions.

UPMC Hamot's newly renovated operating rooms enables our otolaryngology residents to practice in high-tech, modern surgical theaters. Our residents also have the opportunity to use robotic surgery for tongue base treatments and head and neck oncology. Throughout the course of the program and as approved by faculty, residents will assist with and perform increasingly complex procedures.

The otolaryngology residency program also includes robust outpatient experience via local, private-practice ENT specialists, who provide a well-rounded education experience for residents to build both their clinical and interpersonal skills. In the outpatient setting, the resident is exposed to general otolaryngology, head and neck oncology, pediatric otolaryngology, and otology.
