Crisis Residential Unit at UPMC Western Behavioral Health at Safe Harbor

Safe Harbor’s Crisis Residential Unit is a community alternative to inpatient mental health treatment at the hospital.

The Crisis Residential Unit is a voluntary program for adults who are having a mental health emergency. We’ll assess any person, age 18 or older, in crisis for admission of up to 5 days into the unit.

Mental Health Care in a Healing, Restful Setting

We've designed the eight-bed unit to be a home-like setting to help you work toward recovery.

The unit includes:

  • Private bedrooms
  • Outdoor space
  • Quality meals
  • Semi-private bathrooms

Residents receive quality, 24-hour mental health care including:

  • The option to meet daily with a licensed prescriber for medication management.
  • Round-the-clock nursing.
  • Daily one-on-one and group therapy sessions.
  • Recreational activity.
  • Access to a peer specialist.

To find out if you qualify for treatment in the Crisis Residential Unit, call Crisis Services at 814-456-2014. You must be at least 18 years old for admission to the crisis unit.

The unit is open seven days a week, 24 hours a day.
