The Stork Support Program at UPMC Hamot

The Stork Support program is a prenatal program for women in our community designed to give each mother-to-be and her loved ones an opportunity to fully and personally prepare for the birth of the newest family addition.

What is a Stork Support Nurse?

A Stork Support Nurse is a registered nurse specialized in perinatal nursing. This nurse provides special care to the mother and baby during the few months leading up to birth until after the baby is born.

Components of the Stork Support Program

  • A private visit or a phone call with a Stork Support Nurse that includes:
    • Prenatal education
    • Information on how to pre-register for labor and delivery
    • Information on tours of the UPMC Hamot Women’s Hospital for you and your family
  • Follow-up phone calls from a Stork Support Nurse.
  • Access to the resource library in the Health Connection at UPMC Hamot Women's Hospital in addition to all prenatal and parenting classes, including: Childbirth Education, Baby and Breastfeeding Basics, Infant Massage, and more.
​Around 20 weeks ​A Stork Support Nurse will call you to:
  • Answer your questions and discuss your concerns.
  • Review your pregnancy and what to expect.
  • Share prenatal class information and other relevant services that UPMC Hamot provides.
​Around 28 weeks
​A Stork Support Nurse will call you to:
  • Answer your questions and discuss your concerns.
  • Offer information on prenatal class schedules
​Around 34 weeks ​A Stork Support Nurse will call you to:
  • Provide a schedule for tours of the UPMC Hamot Women's Hospital.
  • Answer your questions and discuss your concerns as your delivery approaches.
  • Review your birth plan.
​While you're at the hospital
​A Stork Support Nurse may visit you during this exciting time.
​1-2 weeks after delivery
​A Stork Support Nurse will place a post-partum follow-up call to:
  • Check on you and your baby
  • Offer support for infant feeding.
 
 
 

Beginning Your Journey

Register for Stork Support online or call 814-877-2253 and follow the recorded instructions.

Once your registration information is received, a Stork Support Nurse will contact you and enroll you in the program.
