Research Programs at UPMC Horizon

Women’s Health Research

Many research studies offered through Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC are available at the Womancare Center of UPMC Horizon.

  • Two studies are being coordinated by Katherine L. Wisner, MD, MS, and Women’s Behavioral HealthCARE of Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of UPMC. One study follows the progress of women with bipolar disorder through pregnancy and the first year of parenting. The other study compares the effectiveness of different postpartum depression treatments. Both studies provide professional clinical evaluation, social support, developmental assessment of infants, and financial compensation. For more information, visit Women’s Behavioral HealthCARE.
  • Michael Abdul-Malak, MD, and Linda Spanos, PhD, are conducting a local study of environmental pollution and thyroid disorder during pregnancy. For more information, call the research associate at 724-456-9774.
