UPMC Horizon medical staff accepting scholarship applications
MERCER COUNTY AREA, February 13, 2012–The trustees of the UPMC Horizon Medical Staff Scholarship Fund are accepting applications from local medical school students until Sunday, April 15.
The scholarship fund originated in 1969, when members of the medical staff at what was then known as Greenville Regional Hospital contributed income from school health examinations to a scholarship fund. This money, along with contributions from the Greenville Regional Hospital Surgical Department Hasenplug Fund, established the tradition of awarding medical staff scholarships annually to medical students from the local area.
Following mergers between Greenville Regional Hospital, Shenango Valley Medical Center, and UPMC, the scholarship tradition continued.
Scholarship applicants are limited to individuals from the UPMC Horizon service area who have successfully completed their first year of an allopathic or osteopathic medical school.
For more information or to request a scholarship application, call Julie Anderson, administrative assistant to the UPMC Horizon medical staff, at 724-589-6224.
