Womancare Center to host heart clinic especially for women
HERMITAGE, March 14, 2012– The UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute at UPMC Horizon, in conjunction with Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC, will launch a women’s heart clinic at the Womancare Center of UPMC Horizon this month.
Elizabeth Piccione, MD, attending cardiologist with both the UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute at UPMC Horizon and Magee-Womens Hospital, will see patients at the Womancare Center and offer both preventive measures and treatment for a variety of heart conditions. In the clinic, Dr. Piccione will assess risk factors, focus on preventive factors, and address cardiac issues specific to women, such as cardiac issues in pregnancy.
“We want to provide a space where women can feel comfortable and get comprehensive cardiac care,” Dr. Piccione says. “Magee is known for excellence in women’s health, and we are proud to extend this service to the women in our community.”
Although heart disease is the leading cause of death for women, many women may not be aware of their risk. Heart disease symptoms are different in women than they are in men and may manifest themselves in various ways, such as fatigue, that may not immediately be recognizable as heart disease.
Appointments for the women’s heart clinic may be scheduled through the UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute at UPMC Horizon office by calling 724-981-6810. The Womancare Center is located at 875 N. Hermitage Road, Hermitage.
