Bariatric Surgery at UPMC Horizon

Based in Greenville, PA, the bariatric surgery program at UPMC Horizon has been accredited as a Comprehensive Center by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP), in partnership with the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).​​

UPMC Horizon utilizes a multidisciplinary team made up of a bariatric physician, nurses, dietitians, wellness and exercise staff, financial counselors, and psychologists who are committed to the long-term success of each patient.

The care and treatment plan of each patient is managed by the bariatric team, ensuring a comprehensive and seamless approach to the provision of care.

Surgical Weight Management Support

  • Educational sessions offered several times each month that offer information related to surgical weight loss options
  • One-on-one preoperative nutritional assessment
  • 6 month preoperative classes designed to prepare patients for bariatric surgery as well as integrating the necessary lifestyle changes
  • Appointments at the wellness center to assist with exercise programs as needed
  • Nutritional support as needed
  • Monthly support groups for prospective, current, and past bariatric surgery patients
