About Geriatric Medicine

Welcome to Geriatric Medicine at Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC — our region’s most comprehensive resource for geriatric services. Building on Magee’s leadership in women’s care, our innovative program advances the health care for both men and women over age 65.

As men and women age, their health needs change. Our geriatric health care program, known as the Acute Care Transitions (ACT) program, specializes in medical problems that most frequently affect older adults. We are experts in understanding how age impacts specific illnesses and how treatments must be adjusted for the best possible care.

Our ACT approach works: our geriatric patients typically have shorter hospital stays, reduced complications from hospitalization, and fewer readmissions as compared to other hospital treatment programs not tailored for a geriatric patient needs. The cornerstone of our geriatric ACT program at Magee is our relationship with you and your family. We also respect the important roles your family physician and other specialists play in your care.

Our ACT geriatric team works together with you and your primary care physician creating a coordinated plan of care built around your goals and values.

On this website, I invite you to explore our valuable information and videos about the health care needs of older men and women. Most of all, you’ll discover the qualities that distinguish the compassionate geriatric care we offer at Magee.

We look forward to helping you achieve your fullest independence and quality of life!
