Osteopathic Internship
UPMC Mercy, in cooperation with the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, offers an American Osteopathic Association (AOA)-approved traditional rotating internship for graduates of accredited osteopathic medical schools. The internship uses the extensive educational resources of UPMC Mercy’s specialty residency programs to support both required and elective rotations. Interns are taught by experienced faculty, attend a full range of didactic conferences, and interact with senior and junior residents from a variety of specialties.
UPMC Mercy is affiliated with the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine and the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine for medical student education. Elective clerkships are available for students from other schools. Prospective interns may wish to familiarize themselves with UPMC Mercy’s educational and clinical offerings by scheduling an elective clerkship.
Residency Opportunities
The curriculum for the internship is designed so that an intern may complete the same rotations as first-year residents in our Internal Medicine program. Thus, candidates for the internship may be considered simultaneously for transfer at the PGY-2 level upon completion of the internship.
At the time of application, candidates for the internship should identify the field of medicine in which they hope to continue their training. Preference is given to internship candidates who plan to fast-track into a PGY-2 position in the Internal Medicine residency.
