The Emergency Department at UPMC Mercy provides comprehensive, state-of-the-art emergency care to more than 65,000 people annually from throughout the Western Pennsylvania region. At UPMC Mercy, our team consistently provides patients with the best possible emergency care – no matter the time of day, or the complexity of illness or injury.
UPMC Mercy is a Level I (highest level) Trauma Center, designed to treat the most serious or life threatening injuries, as well as specialized trauma care for obstetrical patients. UPMC Mercy also features an American Burn Association-verified Burn Center, and is the only hospital within Western Pennsylvania that provides Level I trauma and burn care.
As part of the UPMC Stroke Institute, The UPMC Mercy Emergency Department is certified by The Joint Commission as a Primary Stroke Center, providing the most advanced treatments and procedures designed to help prevent disabilities in stroke patients.
The UPMC Stroke Institute’s multidisciplinary team uses advanced therapies to treat stroke and help patients recover physical and cognitive function. Our stroke experts see more than 1,000 patients each year and provide consultation for hundreds of others through the UPMC Stroke Telemedicine Program.
Super Track Services
For less acute problems such as minor sprains, bruises, or colds, we offer a Super Track within our Emergency Department. This allows us to deliver high quality care, quickly and conveniently.
The Emergency Department at UPMC Mercy provides a 24-hour evaluation and treatment center specialized for individuals with psychiatric emergencies.
