Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

UPMC Mercy's Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) cares for critically ill babies born not just at UPMC Mercy, but at community hospitals throughout the tri-state area. Premature babies, as well as babies with intensive medical problems, are cared for in this 13-bed, state-of-the-art facility staffed 24 hours a day by neonatologists and registered nurses. A special nesting room for new parents and their child is available to help provide a smooth transition home.

The short stay and special procedures unit is for children who require brief outpatient diagnosis and treatment.

Child Abuse Program/A Child's Place at Mercy

A Child's Place at Mercy, sponsored by the Sto-Rox Neighborhood Health Council, Inc. and with a location on the UPMC Mercy campus, is an interdisciplinary team of pediatricians and psychologists who are specially trained to assess children when there is a possibility of abuse. When parents, teachers, doctors, or caretakers suspect that a child has been sexually or physically abused, they may contact A Child's Place at Mercy for forensic medical and psychosocial evaluation.
