Trauma Services & Resources

Established in 1987, the UPMC Mercy Trauma Center has been at the forefront of quality trauma care delivery.

Our expert team of specialists works closely with regional emergency responders to prepare for the arrival of trauma patients, ensuring optimum pre-hospital treatment. Once at UPMC Mercy, our patients have access to a wide range of specialists who can support their immediate and long-term needs, including neurosurgeons, orthopaedic surgeons, plastic and reconstructive surgeons, cardiothoracic and vascular surgeons, pediatricians, and geriatric specialists.

We are the region’s only Trauma in Pregnancy Center, with in-house trauma and obstetric attending physicians providing around-the-clock coverage. UPMC Mercy is also a Level III Neonatal intensive Care Unit (NICU), providing advanced, expert care to infants.

The UPMC Mercy Trauma Center is an integral part of UPMC Trauma Care System, the largest and most experienced trauma system in Pennsylvania, and one of the nation’s most comprehensive trauma systems. In fact, UPMC’s trauma and emergency care leaders created the definitive reference tool used by trauma surgeons worldwide, The Trauma Manual.
