UPMC Passavant Children's House Infant Program

The Infant Program is based upon the needs of the child in all areas of development. A safe, stimulating, and supportive environment is provided in which the infant can learn through exploration, while being supported by involved adults.

Age Range

Babies through 18 months old.

The babies typically stay in our infant room until about 18 months, and then move on to our young toddler classroom.

Daily Activities

The infant’s day is structured around the schedule that the parent and child have established.

Daily activities include:
  • Going for walks
  • Playing in small groups
  • Individual time

Diaper changing and feeding are viewed as essential for building relationships with individual children during this one-on-one time. As the infants progress, a daily routine emerges and is established so that the children will find comfort in the consistency of their day.

Our infant room is a large space divided into areas for feeding, sleeping, active play, and tummy time.

Each child is assigned to primary caregivers in order to form a strong bond and receive consistent care.
