UPMC Passavant Children's House
Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten Programs

Pre-Kindergarten Program

The Pre-Kindergarten Program is based on providing a challenging learning environment that supports the child in developing age-appropriate skills. Our ultimate goal is to further the child's ability to function independently, and ease the transition to kindergarten. This is accomplished through the child’s involvement in project work, play, learning centers, and small group learning experiences.

Age Range

4 to 5 years old.

Children enter our Pre-Kindergarten Program after turning 4 by Sept. 1, and they stay until they move to the kindergarten room. Kindergarten eligibility is turning 5 by Sept. 1.

Daily Activities

The daily routine provides a balance of activities as well as a consistent sequence of events for the children to follow. Lessons are planned to promote basic learning skills, and lessons may change according to the child’s interests or needs.

Licensing

Our pre-kindergarten is licensed as a private academic school, and is under the direction of the Department of Education between the hours of 9 a.m. and
11:30 a.m. during the school year. You may bring your child just for the Pre-Kindergarten Program and for the extended day as well.
