​Nutrition Counseling Services at UPMC Passavant

At UPMC Passavant, registered dietitians are available to provide one-on-one counseling to adults with nutrition or nutrition-related health concerns.

Nutrition Services

Whether you're coping with a serious medical condition or looking for general nutrition education, our registered dietitians can guide you toward enhanced well-being.

Our nutrition services include:

  • Diet and nutrition information on a variety of topics, including:
    • Eating disorders
    • Heart disease
    • Weight management
  • Medical nutrition therapy for conditions such as:
    • Celiac disease
    • Kidney disease
    • High cholesterol

Your Nutrition Counseling Appointment

When you meet with a registered dietitian at UPMC Passavant, you will receive:

  • An in-depth nutrition assessment
  • Diet analysis
  • Nutrition education

You will be asked to provide information about your:

  • Eating habits
  • Medications and/or supplements
  • Current medical conditions

The dietitian will then work with you to develop a plan that addresses your health goals. In most cases, a follow-up appointment is suggested to implement your plan and review your progress.

Making an Appointment

To make an appointment with a nutrition expert, you need a referral in the form of a prescription stating "Medical Nutrition Therapy," as well as all of your diagnoses from your doctor.

Call your insurance provider to see if medical nutrition therapy is a covered benefit or if you need preauthorization before your visit. Out-of-pocket expenses can be discussed when scheduling an appointment.
