Special Needs and Communication Assistance

At UPMC Presbyterian, we strive to meet our patients’ and visitors' special needs or physical challenges.

For people with impaired hearing or communications needs, we offer:

  • Sign language interpreters
  • Amplified phone receivers and TDD (telecommunications devices for the deaf)
  • Closed-captioned television
  • Language interpreters/translators
  • Printed educational materials

If you have any concerns, please talk with your nurse or the head nurse on the nursing unit.

Lost and Found

You're responsible for your personal belongings during your stay at UPMC Presbyterian. Please leave all valuables — such as jewelry, large amounts of cash, and sentimental items — at home.

If it's necessary to secure any personal items until someone can take them home for you, we strongly advise you to deposit them in the hospital's safe. To arrange this, please speak with your nurse or call 412-648-2555.

Any lost items found throughout the hospital go to the UPMC Presbyterian Transportation Department for safekeeping until claimed. To inquire about a lost item, call 412-647-3636.

Spiritual Care at UPMC Presbyterian

The Office of Spiritual Care provides spiritual support to patients, families, and staff — regardless of faith, tradition, or denomination.

Palliative Care for Patients and Families

For patients who are dying or have life-limiting illnesses, UPMC Presbyterians palliative care service:

  • Offers relief from pain and other distressing symptoms.
  • Integrates physical, psychological, and spiritual aspects of patient care.
  • Provides a support system to help patients live as actively as possible.
  • Assists family members to cope during the patient's illness and in bereavement.
