The Center for Interventional Psychiatry is part of the UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital. Our team of professionals provides specialized services to hundreds of patients each year.
We are the largest provider of ECT (electroconvulsive therapy) services in the tri-state area. We are also one of the few providers of TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation) in the Pittsburgh region.

Our services are not new. The Center for Interventional Psychiatry builds upon the foundation of UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital and its history as one of the nation's largest behavioral health care providers affiliated with an academic medical school. This academic relationship gives our faculty access to both the newest innovations in patient care and the opportunity to participate in research trials. Our physicians are board-certified clinicians, educators, and respected leaders in their field.
Our clinical staff members have extensive experience in the field of interventional psychiatry. We treat every patient with a team approach. Your individual case will be managed by one of our many psychiatrists and will include experienced professionals during every step of treatment.
Our care is coordinated through outpatient psychiatric services at UPMC. We also care for patients who are hospitalized and in need of treatment.
In addition to our clinical services, we are committed to training the next generation of interventional psychiatric professionals. Our program provides specialized, certified training in ECT to psychiatric service providers across the world through a visiting ECT fellowship program.
